Club members, and a few visitors, raised a fantastic £400+ for World Horse Welfare by participating in an informal riding event. With gymkhana games, clear round jumping, guided hacks and a challenging Handy Pony/Horse course running throughout the day everyone was entertained. Despite the threat of bad weather for the day the rain stopped at 11am and held off until the end of the event at 4pm! The poor forecast sadly put off many outside entries who missed out on a friendly welcome from the club organisers and the spacious showground with outstanding rural views. As expected, the younger riders particularly enjoyed the gymkhana games but older riders were pleasantly surprised by the skill involved in the Handy Pony challenge. Elements replicated some of the experiences encountered when riding outside the school and on the roads. Riders discovered that the hours of flatwork were rewarded when asking for obedience in such a novel situation but it was hard to predict which elements would cause trepidation. Who would have thought that posting a letter would be so scary? Overall the atmosphere was happy and stress free and, thanks to the contribution of so many club members, the day was a great success.
