Honnington Easter Fun Day
Putting the Fun Back Into Riding
Our aim was to combine a high level of horsemanship with having lots of fun. We may even have succeeded in both of these. The morning started with Tack and Turnout and Riding classes. The Show Jumping classes followed with a mini-gymkhana left till last. Strangely enough, the stars of the show were Rosie (a cockerspaniel), Cherry-Pip (a collie x greyhound), Milly (a Jack Russell) and Enzo (a greyhound). But the equine and human competitors didn't do too badly.

The Tack  and  Turnout class was the first to be judged,
with Chuckles winning with a convincing 100%. Khaila and Crumble closely followed at joint 2nd.

Tack and Turnout winners: top: Chuckles. Right: Crumble and Khaila.

The Riding class was divided into 2 - with Taffy and Crumble the winners - Chuckles and Pooey RU the runner-ups.

The first 2 jumping classes were won by Emily riding Copper, narrowly beating Jess and Tilly Mint in class 4.

The combination of Hattie, Bronté and Cherry-Pip looked like a dead cert to win - until Cherry-Pip had other ideas......

The Horse and Hound class was particularly popular - and well-contested with 10 entries. Unfortunately, some of the hounds didn't quite understand the rules of the class causing grief to some of the humans. There was less than three seconds between the first
three competitors  -  Jess with Tilly Mint and Rosie winning over Emily with Copper and Milly by just two seconds   -  and Hattie with Bronté coming in at third despite some rather unhelpful tactics from Cherry-Pip.

From top left, clockwise: Emily with Milly; Jess with Rosie, the eventual winners; Fiona having a few problems with Potter; and Alice with Enzo.

In the main show jumping class, 6 went clear out of 15 entries. Daisy riding Minnie won by 7 seconds in a hair-raising jump-off, with Sam on Olimpic the runner-up. Daisy won again in the Top Score class, with Fiona winning with Oxo in Chase Me Charlie. The overall show jumping championship was won by Daisy, narrowly beating Fiona with Oxo and Hattie riding Bronté.
There was only time left for a mini-gymkhana. We picked speed weaving, the washing line race, Apple Bobbing and the Apple in a Bucket race. The Apple Bobbing race was voted as the favourite race - at least by the audience and helpers - the competitors ended up soaking wet and probably wouldn't agree! Jess riding Tilly Mint won the overall gymkhana championship.
